Green-e Press Release 2004
GREEN-E CERTIFIES RENEWABLE ELECTRICITY
OF LEADING COMPETITIVE SUPPLIER:
Constellation NewEnergy's Renewable Supply Recognized
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (July 12, 2004)- The renewable electricity certification organization, Green-e, today designated Constellation NewEnergy a top national supplier of certified electricity generated from such renewable sources as wind, water and biomass that are less harmful to the environment.
Green-e is the leading verification program in the country, providing independent, third party certification to ensure renewable energy products meet strict environmental and consumer protection standards set through a collaborative process with environmentalists, consumer advocates and energy experts.
Constellation NewEnergy was recognized for procuring clean, renewable electricity supply for industrial and commercial customers in New York and New England.
"More than 10,000 businesses purchase Green-e certified renewable energy, and the demand in the commercial market is growing," said Gabe Petlin, Green-e program manager. "Constellation NewEnergy's certified electricity products allow businesses in the Northeast to choose high quality, clean renewable energy that is verified annually to ensure no double selling occurs. Other green buyers may not get what they pay for, but Green-e certified products are verified to deliver incremental environmental benefits."
Green-e verification protects customers from paying for renewable energy that is "double sold" to other customers or used simultaneously to meet regulatory mandates. The Green-e logo helps consumers identify businesses whose electricity is generated from renewable sources.
"We are thrilled to be recognized by Green-e for supplying electricity generated from renewable sources to our customers," said Deirdre Lord, vice president of the New York/New Jersey region of Constellation NewEnergy. "Green-e's certification is very important to us, because it demonstrates our commitment to promoting renewable energy to our customers and indicates our interest in taking a leadership role in renewable energy supply."
Constellation NewEnergy supplies Green-e certified electricity to facilities for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) in New York City, including the United Nations, Social Security Administration, Veterans Administration and Red Cross. It also supplies electricity from renewable sources to the Genzyme Center in Cambridge, Mass., the bio-pharmaceutical company's headquarters building recognized as a leader in energy efficient design. Additionally, Constellation NewEnergy, working with the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) and Boston 2004, Inc., will be supplying Green-e certified electricity to the Democratic National Convention.
"This certification by Green-e underscores our customer-focused commitment to providing clients with the products and services that meet their needs," said Michael Kagan, vice president for Constellation NewEnergy's New England region, "It also demonstrates our company's commitment to environmental stewardship and an understanding that our operations mandate care for all natural resources."
