Another great thing about not going abroad is the fact that I can take my dog with me. There are loads of really great types of accomodation that allows you to take your dog with you such as this dog friendly B&B in Cumbria. It's great to know that I'm also helping out with the local economy. Apparently Britain spends more abroad than people abroad spends in Britain. I think we should try and keep our money within our own country.
Also, the B&B I mentioned before source a lot of food locally which means that the "food miles" is reduced. I mean, who really needs to buy apples from New Zealand and chives from Isreal?! Also, many countries abroad have major troubles with water whereas in the UK there isn't anywhere near as many difficulties. I feel really bad for countries that are struggling with water and feeding their own people yet so much of their food is exported to the West. I know that it's really difficult to combat this. All too often in the supermarkets I see food that have come from all corners of the world. I've even tried to limit where I buy my wine from. Generally I now just buy Italian wine because it's had less to travel than wine that has come from Chile, South Africa or somewhere else for the matter.
